Star Wars TV Series

Posted in Blogs on March 9th, 2009 by The Geek

It appears that the rumored Star Wars live action TV series is actually going to happen.  Apparently Lucas and friends are currently casting for the series.  Lucas will film a years worth of episodes before putting it on the market, much the same way he did with Clone Wars.  The show will not involve Jedi or Darth Vader but will include Stormtroopers.  It is set to take place between the events of Episode III and Episode IV and will follow the Rebel Alliance as it slowly gains strength against the Empire.

Stay tuned!

Harry Potter HBP Trailer #2

Posted in Blogs on March 8th, 2009 by The Geek

The latest trailer for the next Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is fantastic and really shows how dark this movie is going to be.  The book was quite different from any of it’s predecessors so it’s good to see they carried it through to the movie.  Check out the HD version of the trailer here.

New Star Trek Trailer

Posted in Blogs on March 8th, 2009 by The Geek

The Star Trek reboot looks much better than I was expecting. As a Trekkie I was worried the movie would not live up to series long history. After watching the trailer I am confidant in saying that the new movie looks as good or better than any of the past Trek films. Take a look for yourself here.

Bonobo Sex

Posted in Blogs on January 28th, 2009 by The Geek

I read a very interesting artical yesterday in the New York Times.  Titled “What Do Women Want?” it tells the story of Meredith Chivers, a Psychology Professor at Queen’s University, where she studies sexual behavior.  In a recent study she found that when shown a variety of sexually explicit videos (heterosexual sex, male and female homosexual sex, a man masturbating, a woman masturbating, a chiseled man walking naked on a beach, a well-toned woman doing calisthenics in the nude and bonobos having sex) women found the clips of bonobos having sex to be the most arousing.  Yep, that’s a head scratcher!  Read more here.

Asimov’s Foundation Series Coming to Big Screen

Posted in Blogs on January 20th, 2009 by The Geek

In a bitter sweet piece of news, Columbia Pictures announced that it had won the rights to adapt Isaac Asimov’s Foundation Trilogy.  That’s the sweet part!  The bitter part is that Roland Emmerich of 10,000 B.C. and The Day After Tomorrow will be helming the films…arrrgh.  This adaptation is way to important to put into Emmerich’s hands.  It remains to be seen whether his next films; 2012 and Fantastic Voyage, will be the total crapfest that his previous films were.  I will admit that I did enjoy ID4.  More after the jump to /Film.

Potter Movie Crazy Talk

Posted in Blogs on January 5th, 2009 by The Geek

With the economy slowing down people have started talking about some crazy shit.  For example, some are worried the economy will claim the Harry Potter movies.  This is pure nonsense.  The economy will mostly effect the weak.  The businesses and services that really can only survive in fat times.  Harry Potter is a very strong franchise which can and will weather the slower economy.  Even if I were down to my last penny I would do whatever it took to see these movies.  More after the jump including some great new HP HBP pictures.  More…

Bourne 4 Update

Posted in Blogs on December 19th, 2008 by The Geek

Have I ever mentioned that I could watch Bourne movies everyday for the rest of my life and enjoy every minute of them?  No? That should help explain why I am so excited about his news.  Pilfered straight from IGN:

Jason Bourne could be on the run again as soon as next summer.

In an interview with Collider, producer Frank Marshall says that Bourne 4 could go before cameras by the end of summer 2009. A summer 2010 release is a possibility, but Marshall advised the site that they are not going to rush the screenplay, which is being penned by George Nolfi.

Marshall did say that Universal and the filmmakers are extremely close to nailing the story and have settled on the premise.

TRON Sequel: TR2N

Posted in Blogs on December 19th, 2008 by The Geek

News today that the new TRON sequel will be shot in 3D.  I am not a fan of 3D, mostly because of the uncomfortable glasses and resulting headache, but others seem to be quite excited by this development.  This may be a silly question but is there a way to make and present a 3D film that doesn’t require the glasses?

Anywho, the sequel stars Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett and may include Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn.  The release date seems to be late 2009, early 2010.

Hossein Amini (Who?) Penning New Jack Ryan Movie

Posted in Blogs on December 19th, 2008 by The Geek

Screenwriter Hossein Amini has been hired to tackle a new Jack Ryan movie for Paramount Pictures. The erstwhile intelligence analyst and all-American do-gooder created by novelist Tom Clancy has not appeared onscreen since 2002′s “The Sum of All Fears.”

Amini is best known for is adapted screenplay “The Wings of the Dove” and is also attached to “The Golden Compass” sequel.

As a die hard Clancy fan, I would welcome any new Clancy adaptation.  I would even be ok with Ben Affleck.  I wish they had picked a screenwriter with more thriller/intrigue street cred but something is better than nothing.

According to the Hollywood Reporter ” His new Ryan film is planned as an origin story, not derived from Clancy’s novels and ultimately featuring a new, younger star.”

Hugh Jackman to Host Oscars

Posted in Blogs on December 12th, 2008 by The Geek

This is a curious bit of news.  Apparently Hugh Jackman will be hosting this years Oscars.  Not sure why he was chosen but should make for a different show.  I hope he stays away from trying to be funny and just presents with class and energy.

Bourne 4

Posted in Blogs on December 9th, 2008 by The Geek

Frank Marshall, producer of the Bourne series, mentioned in a recent interview that they were close to “zeroing in on a storyline” for the next installment of the spy thriller.  Apparently they are basing it on a Ludlum non-Bourne novel called “The Parsifal Mosaic”.  I don’t care what they base it on as long as they make another one.

‘A Christmas Story’ Lives On

Posted in Blogs on December 8th, 2008 by The Geek

CNN has a great story about on of my favorite holiday movies, ‘A Christmas Story’.  Released in 1983, the film did not enjoy widespread success until released to video where it has become a cult classic.

If “Star Trek” has Trekkies, “A Christmas Story” has Ralphies, named after the hero of the movie: Ralphie Parker, a 9-year old boy growing up in 1940s Indiana. He’s on a mission to convince his parents, a cranky department store Santa and anyone who will listen that a BB gun is the perfect gift for Christmas.

“You’ll shoot your eye out,” everyone replies, to his exasperation.

Along the way, viewers meet Ralphie’s colorful family, friends, classmates and tormentors, who fill the nostalgic landscape with lots of humor and childhood angst. The film was based on the stories of radio host and writer Jean Shepherd, who drew from his own childhood in Hammond, Indiana.” More…

Cars 2

One of my son’s favorite movies of all time is Disney Pixar “Cars”.  It looks like Pixar has decided to do a sequel for a 2011 release.  No further details were released.

National Treasure 3

Posted in Blogs on December 7th, 2008 by The Geek

Rumor has it that Disney will be producing a third edition of its National Treasure story line.  Plot details were not discussed, but it was made clear that director Jon Turteltaub would be back behind the camera, with most of the original cast returning as well. The film is currently in development.  While this series is not Oscar material, they are fun movies to watch.
